Happy Halloween

This is my tiny porch
It faces west so is shady in the morning.
Great for a cuppa and a read.

Here is Spidy

My mom made this ceramic pumpkin probably 35 years ago.
It has never been so precious to me as now.
And... even though he is smiling, when the light is on at night he is scary.
Mom was an expert at the scary smile!!

Happy Halloween!

P.S. There was snow on my deck this morning... Good Grief!!

Round Lake

This lake is completely surrounded by houses.
Some very nice, some very shabby as is typical in these lake communities close to me.

The exception is this little stretch of lake shore that is put aside for a tiny park and canoe launch.
The parking lot is bigger than the open space with one picnic table.

They are all putting their boats in dry dock.
Alas, summer is over!

More Color

I love the way the color of the trees is reflected in these
goosey shots

These birds are considered a nuisance here.
They are very abundant.
It was very evident in the litter they left on the grassy trail leading to this little lake.
Checking the bottoms of my shoes!

Time

Hi y'all.
I can't believe it has been almost a whole week.
I have been quite busy working late etc.

I wanted to show you what the difference of a few weeks can be.

This shot was taken last Sunday
The shot in the previous post of the same spot taken about three weeks before that.

Color

Last week I shot up to Wisconsin and everything was sort of brown and blah.
I did find some color though.

I have a favorite area that I usually gravitate to near Burlington.
The narrow back roads never fail to show me something delightful

Today I a going to stay close to home at Grant Woods
The variety of trees there usually makes for nice Autumn photos.
This shot was taken there a few weeks ago.
Quite a contrast huh?

Stone ~ Good Fences

This isn't the sharpest picture
But I wanted to show a stone fence.

I just love how the people in the UK manage their livestock.
It's never muddy and yucky.
The sheep just hang out here and there and the cows rest.
The stone fences don't really keep them in.
They go pretty much where they want to go, including the road.
Funny... I've never seen one run over!

Still Life ~ A Personal Photo Challenge

This is Esperanza

I put her on the shelf and then her little friends showed up.
They don't have names.

This picture looks a lot better if you click on it.
I don't know how to get rid of that little grey frame

Dear Lord... Help me be a better kitty.

Mom's gonna be mad when she sees what I did.

Autumn ~ Good Fences

I took a drive at lunchtime today to a nice Forest Preserve nearby
just get get my fence shot.

This area is so densely wooded that I often see several deer.
Too sunny today

This is the same shot with the Camera 360 app.

The sky was beautiful again today!

A Name

Can someone identify this bird for me?

I'm not a birder and do not recall seeing these guys before.

They swooped down in mass and snacked at the feeder,
drank from the puddle, and were gone.
a pretty good sized flock of them, I am guessing migration.

They completely took over.

And who's baby is this??
How could this little ball of fuzz keep up with a migrating flock or,
am I mistaking a sparrow baby as one of theirs?
Curious.

Once Upon A Time ~ Good Fences

I took this on the fly with my cell phone on the way to work.
I have always wondered when I drive by just where the house would have stood.

The barn was in really bad shape when I came to this neighborhood and has since been torn down.
The house was gone before me.

I think that kind of fence means livestock.
Curious...
