A Name

Can someone identify this bird for me?

I'm not a birder and do not recall seeing these guys before.

They swooped down in mass and snacked at the feeder,
drank from the puddle, and were gone.
a pretty good sized flock of them, I am guessing migration.

They completely took over.

And who's baby is this??
How could this little ball of fuzz keep up with a migrating flock or,
am I mistaking a sparrow baby as one of theirs?
Curious.

  1. brown-headed cowbirds, i believe. the females are the grayer/browner versions whereas the males have the dark bodies with brown heads. :)

  4. I have to agree with Theresa ... they are definately Cow birds. The first one may be a juvenile because he seems lighter than the females and the one little "baby" I believe is a house sparrow. For a non-birder, you capture some really cute pictures. You may become a birder yet :)
