This little church is just a few streets away
What was once a farming community
Now rural residential
There are still farms but lots of new homes too.
In the background is the new church for the larger congregation
It is one of the ugliest buildings I have ever seen.
Who would do that??
It looks like a utilitarian auditorium. Fine, if that's what they need, but the spire looks awkward. It certainly doesn't have the charm of its predecessor. Your header perfectly captures the briskness of this time of year!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty church (the old one) but I agree with you on the new version. ugh. So glad you were safe in the storm, and your note cards from last week are beautiful. Did I ever tell you we used to live in your county--years ago, and grew up in Cook.
ReplyDeletethe new place has no charm - just sprawl. you should link up to inspired sunday with this at www.inspiredsundaymeme.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, Jeanne! :) I agree, the new church looks sort of.. industrial.. for lack of a better word. Homely indeed. But the original is charming and lovely. That happens a lot here too, around Portland Oregon. My town of Hillsboro was once a farming town, but is now a suburb full of sprawl. There are a few ugly churches like this. But there are many old wonderful ones. I might post some pics one of these days. I love your new header, btw! :D
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. That second and forth shot I find simply fascinating , love the sky !
ReplyDeleteYou are right...that new church is very lacking in charm. The first one is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHave a good week ahead and a Happy Thanksgiving!
Kauniita kuvia kirkot ovat ihania paikkoja ♥
ReplyDeleteThe first one resembles the church of my youth and happy memories of being married there :)
ReplyDeleteThe first pictures could have been taken my my little farming town. : )
ReplyDeleteThe first church has lots of charm, the second, none at all!!
I love all the old churches like that. Thanks for sharing. And I agree that the new church is without any redeeming architectural character.
ReplyDeleteThe sign of the times. Old church grounds are historic. I don't believe in any of it, but I do appreciate the history and family stories that go with the gravestones and old buildings. However, I'm not so crazy about these new structures that look terrible! My high school in Wisconsin was unique and incredible. It was one of the coolest buildings in my town and it always stood out from the rest of schools around our area and the state. Then, they destroyed the building and put up this shanty that they now call a high school. It's UGLY! And in place of my high school now, there are condos. Ridiculous!
