A Ray of Hope

Today was a much better day.

It was about 40 deg and felt like spring!!

That made me think of summer

and then I found a picture to match

This little waterfall is at the Chicago Botanical Garden

The picture was taken in July with a point and shoot

I'm going to go back this summer with my SLR

The Secret Garden

The reason I am calling it the secret garden is

I have no idea what is going to be planted.

I have several beds that did not survive the drought last year.

In one of them I want to plant something like this.

What is it?

Does it bloom all summer?

I'm pretty sure this is in the rose family.

I'll bet more than one of you know what this is.

It looks like they are on fire.

An anniversary

Today

Is the one year anniversary of my blog.

Holy Cow, that time went fast.

I got my first comment a week later. 

I was hooked.

I love this forum

Nice people I have found here

I don't have a lot of followers, but I don't have much time 

to nurture them.

I'm kind of picky, don't want to waste my time with sillyness I am not interested in. 

So if you are here in this little circle, know

 that I think you are pretty special, and I am truly interested in what you have to say and photograph.

My first post

Firelight

Okay, this may not be a popular view but...

I hate candles.

With the exception of tapers on a dinnertable.

I really don't like those small smelly, messy candles

or the bigger more expensive versions of

Flame-O-Stinky

But I do love the ambiance of the flame.

Years ago I found an alternative called a Wolford Lamp

It was a beautiful morning

Spring is no where is sight but the sun is out.

Color

It was truly divine intervention 

that brought me to this place.

It is a long boring story except for the part about 

driving rain, hail, rainbows and a great big 

God-smack upside the head.

I had to humble myself a bit.

And it was the best decision I ever made.

This is the rear view of my humble little cottage 

the first spring I lived here.

Before the patio and the Arborvites.

The living room and bedroom are in the back where the view is.

The kitchen looks out on a little front porch. 

This is obviously not a spring shot. 

My little deck is just right for one or two. 

Which is my preferred amount of company.

I am thankful every day. 

Spring

Its been a busy week and I haven't had a time to compose 

anything worthwhile to post.

Nor have I had time to read yours. 

I will catch up over the weekend.

The weather is so awful, cold and depressing 

and there's nothing but mud out there.

Which has nothing to do with this picture.

This was taken a few years ago in May.

The barn is now gone with the other buildings and 

the lot is overgrown. 

There are a few newly abandoned houses on this road that will most likely go first and then the barns. 

I am going to try to get some shots of them before they are gone.

The Thaw

while flying down to road this morning.

I stayed in all weekend because it did

nothing but rain.

 

The once snowy fields are now little lakes.

A Misty Morning

Through the windshield with a cell phone.

My point and shoot is shot.

This foggy mist was hovering in the shallows

I found it interesting enough to want to record it.

I'm not sure why this feed corn was not harvested 

but it makes for a very pretty picture

Got a feeling this is going to be here for awhile!

At least the sun is out.

Good Girl

I am Abby, sometimes mommy calls me Pie.

This is as far as I can go.

Mommy says:

"No paws on the counter"

"No nose in the food"

I still like to watch and be close to mommy,

and when she is not at home,

I put paws on the counter all I want.

Sometimes I roll on the cutting board too.

That is much better than nose in the food.

She can't see me so she can't say no.

Weather Report

This was taken a few minutes ago.

The good news is...

I took a snow day!

Working from home is much better on a day like this.

Not having to commute changes my entire outlook.

They'll have this mess cleaned up by tomorrow morning 

and it should start melting by Friday. 

I'm here snug with a hot cupa joe!

Some fun

I'm sure you are all sick of seeing snow, but

That's all there is folks.

I decided to look for what I like the best and then tweak to 

give it a bit more drama. 

I love animal prints in the snow.

I can imagine the creature on the other side of the hill.

Old Barn

I'm surrounded by barns in various states of age and repair.

I rarely photograph them and I'm sorry now because a few 

real beauties have been torn down.

When I was out a few weeks ago snow chasing I took this one 

of a barn no longer in use for the purpose it was built.

I'll bet the American Pickers would love to get in there.

Wouldn't this barn be cool in a movie as a dance hall

ala Patrick Swayze?
